Your role

The Agribusiness Food and Water department, team ECA MENA is growing and looking for an enthusiastic Associate The team comprises of 9 investment professionals (including this vacancy) The team is responsible for a portfolio of around 15 clients and c. EUR 500 million exposure and supported by a team of environmental, social, insurance, legal and compliance specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in originating and structuring new deals:
    • Preparation of investment proposals undertaking analysis and discussions with internal staff & clients as appropriate.
    • Market research relevant for the Agri sector.
    • Administrative tasks with regards to file completion (compliance and reporting)
    • Planning and execution of due diligence visits.
    • Excel financial modelling to prepare cash flow projections.
    • Client visits when requested.
    • Analysis of financial data including ratios, budgets etc.
    • Legal contracting
  • Monitoring
    • Preparation of credit reviews including market and financial analysis
    • Build and maintain relationships with relevant people in the investee company.
    • Support clients by responding to requests for information.
    • Drafting of disbursement memo’s and change requests.
    • Client monitoring visits when needed.
  • Provides input to the team business plan. Participates in internal project teams where needed.

The Agribusiness, Food & Water department (AFW) is looking for a (Senior) Associate in the Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa (“ECA MENA”) team. This diverse team (8 nationalities) focuses on origination, execution, and management of debt investments in the agribusiness sector in ECA MENA. AFW works with companies along the value chain including primary producers, processors, traders, and logistical services providers. The main objective is to invest in private sector companies in the agribusiness value chain to produce and distribute food, work with (smallholder) suppliers and stimulate environmentally friendly technologies and practices. Focus will be on business development in the region, including, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, Caucasus, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Morocco, together with the Investment Officers in the team.

The (Senior) Associate will participate in different deal teams for the execution of transactions as well as support portfolio management activities in the ECA MENA region. He or she will report to the Manager ECA MENA. We are looking for a professional that combines corporate/investment banking experience with a passion for impact investments in the agribusiness sector. The (Senior) Associate is proactive, customer focused and delivers high quality output.

Your background

  • Master’s degree – preferably in finance or business administration.
  • Minimum of 3 (Senior: 5years) years of relevant work experience in financial services.
  • Knowledge of and experience in debt financing in emerging markets.
  • Knowledge of and affinity with the agribusiness sector – preferably affinity with ESG topics

Skills

  • Ability to analyse financial and economic data, markets and how this drives the credit quality of the client.
  • Displays strong financial and ESG risk awareness, while thinking creatively with an entrepreneurial focus.
  • Displays a commercial drive and strong business sense and is service/client-oriented.

Competences

  • Flexible, pragmatic, solution-oriented and has a “can-do” mentality
  • Good knowledge of financial applications of Excel, including Financial Modelling
  • Strong presentation and negotiating skills.
  • Strong skills in planning, administration, organizing and prioritizing.
  • Able to escalate issues when necessary.
  • Strong team player.
  • Good networking skills.

  • Fluency in English (Arabic or French is a plus)
